Issey Miyake launched his eponymous brand in New York in 1971. Miyake defined the brand as a search for the most comfortable relationship between fabric and body, a search that is visible in the organic, fluid, and loose lines of its pieces, which are meant to fall on the body like “a piece of cloth.” Over the past fifty years, Miyake’s light, minimalist, and versatile creations have influenced designers like Jonathan Anderson and Faustine Steinmetz. Since 2020, the brand is led by Satoshi Kondo.
