Rick Owens launched his eponymous brand in 1994. He was initially based in Hollywood but moved to Paris after a few years, and his collections mix the aesthetics of the American frontier with European references. His pieces are both approachable and avant-garde, including leather jackets, black cashmere knits, long slim shirts, and loose pants, which can be easily worn by goths, motorbike riders, and rock stars. Owens has received the Perry Ellis Award, the Cooper-Hewitt Design Award, and the Fashion Group International Rule Breaker Award. The first two decades of his career were documented in the “Subhuman Inhuman Superhuman” exhibition at the Triennale di Milano.
